The Mason Community Players opened Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest 125 years to the day after its premiere on February 14, 1895 in London. That's right! Our MCP cast took the stage at 8:05 PM on February 14, 2020, at Theatre 42 to bring this classic story to life once again. The message of this “Trivial Comedy for Serious People,” as its subtitle declares, rings as true in today’s world as it did in Wilde’s.
The nine-person cast have only three more performances left February 20th, 21st, and 22nd at 8:00 PM. Together the performers utilize Wilde’s high farce and witty dialogue to convey his timeless messages about marriage, morality, and the importance of turning earnestness on its ear. Director Mary Beringer wants to invite everyone to come and bring a sweetheart to share in this light-hearted experience. An evening of dinner and theatre would make a wonderful gift even if it is the weekend after Valentine's Day. Your sweetheart deserves to be celebrated all week long! Better yet, MCP says make it a double date with close friends ... Algie, Jack, Gwendolyn and Cecily would approve. Or why not have dinner with a bunch of friends, come and chuckle at the "the things we do for love" and have a drink afterwards to top it all off. MCP has group rates for ten or more. Call the message line at 513.398.7804 to reserve room for your group!
