Meet Members of The Yellow Boat Cast

The Yellow Boat is coming to the Playhouse in September. Director Kevin Dunaway has assembled a wonderful cast comprised of those who have performed with MCP in the past and those who are new to the group.

In this issue we will be highlighting Charlie Rader, who will be portraying the role of Father. Father is the character based on the real-life story of the author. This will not be the first appearance of Charlie on stage with MCP. He previously appeared as Reverend Chausable in The Importance of Being Ernest. Even though not an MCP “regular,” Charlie is no stranger to the stage. In recent years, he has been a mainstay at the Loveland Stage Company with the roles; U in Mission Possible, Oscar Shapiro in Curtains, Mr. Simmons in Memphis: The Musical, and many more. Charlie also has taken roles with various other groups such as Queen City Productions, Lebanon Theater Company, Center Stage Players, and Nativity Players.

Charlie is skilled in many different accents. When this skill is needed, it helps him to bring extra depth to the characters he portrays. Charlie also brings a great deal of experience to the stage, as he has taken on over 150 roles in over 1,500 performances with the Covenant Players International Repertory Theater Company. This builds on top of his experience in college where he earned a Minor in Theater at Ohio University. Charlie has also made himself knowledgeable about the use of video in productions and for capturing theatre to film.
MCP is glad to have Charlie and his extensive experience as a part of a great ensemble bringing The Yellow Boat to our stage. Don't miss him in this stellar role!

Be sure you save the show dates to come find out how to "Artfully embrace letting go …"

Have You Been Supporting 50 for 50?

MCP's 50 for 50 campaign has begun! It cannot be successful without the support of every member. The campaign's goal is to raise $50,000 by December 31st of our 50th year. That total amount has been divided into five $10,000 goals each focusing on a specific area of venue improvement. The work at the Playhouse over the last nine months has been incredible. It is hard to believe that it has only been nine months and it is hard to believe how much the membership has improved the space in such a short amount of time. The $10,000 goals are "A Wonderful Life, A Wonderful Town, a Wonderful Exterior," "Kinky Boots, The Full Monty … and the Kitchen Sink," Paint the Town, Paint Your Wagon, Paint our Building," "Defying Gravity" In the Heights ... Give us a lift!" and Catch Me If You Can, "The Cellblock Tango" ... Lock the door and throw away the key!

You can donate now! You can ask your friends and family to donate!

Just click here! And share the link with every one that you know!

Not a fan of making an online donation? That's okay. You can write a check. Make out a check to Mason Community Players for the amount you would like to donate. Be sure to write "50 for 50" on the memo line. You can hand the check to Treasurer Susan Berger or mail it to P.O. Box 300, Mason, OH 45040.

We want to raise $50,000 in 18 months and meet our goal by December 31, 2023 ... so GO!
Can we reach $5,000 before the close of The Yellow Boat? Sure we can, we made $1,100 before the close of Nunsense A-men, which was a much shorter span of time! Our current total is $1,870 from just six supporters. We have five weeks left! Let's go!

2022 ATP Event Successful

The 2022 Western & Southern Open Tournament is concluded. We can close the door on another year of raising critical funds for MCP. The weather was gorgeous for so much of the time when we were on the street. We did, however, have a few pop-up showers (which we swore were only over the venue) that delayed matches. That did not help us to get home early, but we did spend many hours in low-humidity, warm-but-not-scorching-puffy-white-cloud weather with breezes that brought us to cool nights. That was until we hit this weekend. Our intrepid parking team met with quite a few storms, but "weathered" on!

We did not fill all 588 shifts. We managed to staff 441 shifts with 77 members. We had only one session completely and fully staffed with all needed volunteers this week. Lest you think that if we can complete the tasks with less people then we really don’t need to ask for so many people, please understand that it puts more burden on those who do show up and it makes them less safe in the environment. When we are fully staffed, we are all present protecting each other and those who are assigned to park their cars in our lot.

A great deal of credit for the success of the event goes to Lara Gonzalez and Peyton Hahn, who were the supervisors this year. Lara was able to take on the tasks of supervisor for a few sessions last year. Peyton was completely new to the role. Both did a fantastic job of managing the many complex elements of the job. They are great assess for the future success of this fundraiser.
There was a lot of laughter. We have a few more stories to tell. MCP can once again be proud of the way we present ourselves to the greater community. And this is really a “greater community,” since there are patrons of the tournament from all over the world! Many, many patrons express their gratitude and cheer our efforts with shouts of “Thank you,” “You guys do a great job,” “You rock,” and “We appreciate all your help” as they walk across the crosswalk, jump into their Uber/Lyft, or drive out of the lot. Let’s keep hoping that we have this opportunity to help keep MCP financially healthy for many years to come.

Coffee Corner Has News

Throughout the summer, the Membership Committee has been hosting Coffee Corner every other Saturday at different locations throughout the area. They wanted members to be able to enjoy some social time in coffee shops closer to their residences. It was a lot of fun investigating new places.
For the month of August, Coffee Corner will continue to travel. Just one Coffee Corner remains this month. August 27th will be the last hurrah for the summer months. We are going to flip the tables on a long-time member who serves on the Membership Committee, the Paint Team, and the Board and who travels a far piece to do so. This time we are going to travel to her and join her at Biggby Coffee in Springboro that morning.
Beginning with the month of September, Coffee Corner will have a permanent location. The event will continue to be held every other Saturday at 9am, but interested members will gather regularly at Biggby Coffee in Pisgah. Located on Route 42 just south of Mason proper, it will be somewhat centrally located for many members and will be close to the Playhouse in case there are events at that location. This way members can spend a little time at coffee and be able to arrive at the Playhouse in time for whatever is planned in the venue.
Please come out and join together as often as you can!

Renovation at Playhouse On Hold

Everybody who renovates is out on the street at ATP volunteering at our biggest fundraiser. Reno tasks will be addressed once again beginning this week!

Free Logs and Timber at the Playhouse

There is some nice, fresh wood free to a good fireplace/fire pit at the Playhouse. The remnants of the tree that was cut down is still at the theatre and currently up for grabs on a first come/first served basis.  Please feel free to stop by and take some home with you.  It is currently located next to the large storage container in the parking lot.

This newsletter will be sent to you each Sunday evening. It is the hope of the leadership of MCP that this will be an easy communication for you to refer to throughout that week and that you will not have as many messages from the group in your inbox over the course of the week. You can always reach out to us at any time with suggestions.
