MCP is feeling a little bittersweet today. A season is coming to a close, but we are anxiously awaiting our monumental 50th anniversary season. Our season was laugh filled with the likes of You Have the Right to Remain Dead and Nunsense/Nunsense A-men, and heartfelt drama with Belles and The Yellow Boat. This year had it all. Returning members from years past, as well as new members we hope to see again. Friendships were made and fun was had by all.
However, I would be remiss in not saying a few words about the show that closed out this season. The Last 5 Years wrapped up this season by being a lit bit of all the parts of this season and rolling them into one. There were bits of humor sprinkled into compelling drama in a tale of love found and lost … of love lost and how it was found. Beautiful music combined with great storytelling. The vocals of the 2 new members blended and told a story from a truly unique perspective with veteran leadership rounding out a beautiful show. This show summed up our year as we not only reflect on the past, but also look forward to the years to come.
Don’t forget to come back and see our first show of the new year, Puffs! Stay tuned as we will be sharing more about this magically hilarious show that will appearing in March… "Expecto Parody!"

Each year at the Annual Banquet, MCP honors the hard work and dedication of many members. The Board of Directors is responsible for choosing the recipients of the Grace Campbell Award, the Dallas and Helen Bowyer Award, the Jason Holt Technician of the Year and the Business of the Year. They submit nominations to Robert Terry, who represents Founder Karen Terry, his aunt. He chooses from those nominations the recipient of the Terry Family Founders Award.
But other awards come from the membership in general ... the Most Community Players are voted on by those who work on a production, for instance. The Silver Service Awards can be nominated by any member. These awards are to recognize those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. For example, a person may have agreed to be the Props Coordinator for a show, but ended up taking on another area or helping greatly in another area. Another deserving candidate may be someone who took on a huge fundraising project. The possibilities are many. If you feel someone went "above and beyond," submit that person's name and the reason you feel they are deserving to Becca McLaughlin. Just e-mail her here!
And never let it be said that we do not honor those who give their life's blood or who undergo great pain in their service. If you witnessed the shedding of blood by a member in the course of completing an MCP task, submit their name(s) to Becca. If someone did not draw blood, but was subjected to pain, yep, you got it, submit their name to Becca.
Greetings MCP Family,
It is that time of year again to make nominations for the 2023/24 MCP Board of Directors. This year, Lara Gonzalez, Jason Gonzalez, Susan Berger, Melissia Gary, Mary Stan Fizer, and Jennifer Lisa will be completing their 2-year terms opening up 6 positions for MCP's Board of Directors. We thank them all for their years of service on the Board. If you have a nomination(s) for the Board, please e-mail your nomination(s) here. Include a short paragraph supporting your choice of nominee(s). Please get your nominations to Jim Cronin by Thursday, December 19th, so we can get confirmation and acceptance from them and be ready for the Banquet. I look forward to reading some great nominations!
Jim Cronin
The selection for the last PlayBook of this year is:
November 30: Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis, source for the play of the same name and the musical, Mame.
How many squares have you filled on your MCPGo Card? Do you have your MCPGo card? Well, rumor has it there are going to be some challenges soon. You want to be sure you have yours. Remember, if you did it in 2022, you can count it on your card! Get one here!
Keep spreading the news about our 50th Anniversary Season. Let friends and family know that we will be producing Puffs, directed by Trish Cooper, in March; The Dining Room, directed by Gail Rudolph, in May; Company, directed by Jim Cronin, in July; Escanaba in da Moonlight, directed by Ray Lebowski, in September; and Gender Bender 5.0, in October. Auditions for shows following Puffs will be publicized here, on the web site, through Facebook, in e-mails, and on Behind the Curtain.
The Theatre Nerds Trivia Team meets weekly on Thursday evenings at James' Third Base in Mason at 7pm. All interested Trivia Nerds are invited. There will be a Monday evening session on November 21st at Olde Village Tavern, 8123 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd. Arrive by 6:45pm. Coordinator Joel Lind says just show up and join in the fun!
It's the fourth quarter of 2022, unbelievably. Where did the year go? We have birthdays to celebrate from October, November, and December. The Celebration will be held Tuesday, November 29th at City Barbecue, 7706 Voice of America Centre Drive, West Chester. The Membership Committee will be holding the group gathering at 6pm, but you can use the voucher all day during the hours that City BBQ serves to have 20% of your purchase dedicated to MCP. If you dine in, you must present the voucher either by pulling it up on your phone or submitting a printed copy. Please remember that we cannot distribute the vouchers to others at the restaurant. Access the voucher here!
If you wish to order online, or use the app you must enter the fund code: FundA, and then click the red + button to apply the fund code prior to final checkout. Online orders must be for the day of the fundraising event, in this case November 29th.
Our fundraiser code is FundA. You can use that code when ordering online. Click here for that link. In order to receive 20% of the fundraising proceeds, MCP must purchase more than $500 from the establishment. That has been the terms of the agreement since partnering with City BBQ, and it has not bee a problem to date. Still, we really need everyone to try their best to participate so that we do not run the risk of forfeiting the proceeds of the fundraiser.
Purchases that qualify for the fundraising efforts include food, beverage, and bottled sauces. Gift card, non-sauce retail items, delivery orders, orders made through third party delivery, and sales tax cannot be applied to the fundraising total.
Help us make this event a success! See you on the 29th!
Two of our ongoing fundraising programs are Kroger Community Rewards and amazonsmile. MCP likes these two programs because it does not require members to take any money out of their own pockets to provide financial benefit to the group. And both are very easy to initiate.
Kroger Community Rewards provides MCP with a percentage of every purchase made at their stores and gas stations. If you are not already signed up,
just visit here!
If you have a Kroger Plus Card, Community Rewards can be tied to it. If you do not have a Plus Card, you can sign up for it as you enroll in the program. Even if you do not shop at Kroger regularly, it is still a benefit to enroll in the program. Even now-and-again purchases give a little back to MCP, and if everyone participates, it all adds up. This program gets MCP about $1,000 a year; help make it even more.
Another "shop and give back" comes from amazonsmile. If you shop Amazon, you simply go to smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com, choose Mason Community Players as the non-profit you wish to support, and shop as you always do. The percentage of return from this program is not at all as lucrative as Kroger, but that does not matter. From April 1st to June 30th this year, we received $52.37 from those shopping on smile. Since we began the program, MCP has reveived $1,114.06. They may not seem like a lot, but one of our favorite phrases is, "That's $1,114.06 that we didn't have before." Every little bit helps. If you are going to shop Amazon anyways, then use smile. It looks and feels exactly the same as using Amazon and you can continue to be a Prime member, and that does not change.
Give both of these programs a chance, if you don't participate already!
Thank you to ...
… Laureen Catlin, Phil Catlin, Jim Cronin, Stephanie Dalsfoist, Dana Davis, Jason Gonzalez, Gunner Shoemake, and Lexi Zapata for a one hour and fifteen minute strike!
… Paint Team Members Laureen Catlin, Gaylene May Schumacher, Becca McLaughlin, Gail Rudolph, and Sonya Neff for their time dedicated to props inventory this week. A lot of work was accomplished! The December 31st goal is looking possible, but only time will tell if these intrepid souls can meet the deadline!
… all of the MCP members who attended the closing weekend of The Last Five Years; your support of the show is truly appreciated!
MCP's 50 for 50 campaign needs your support! It cannot be successful without every member helping to promote it. The campaign's goal is to raise $50,000 by December 31st of our 50th year.
You can donate now! Just click here!
Not a fan of making an online donation? That's okay. You can write a check. Make out a check to Mason Community Players for the amount you would like to donate. Be sure to write "50 for 50" on the memo line. You can hand the check to Treasurer Susan Berger or mail it to P.O. Box 300, Mason, OH 45040.
This is not just a fundraiser designed to solicit donations from members. Ask your family and friends to donate. Ask a local business. Remember that we are a 501c3 corporation and the gifts are tax deductible.
Pictured above is an MCPGo Card. Only about one month remains to complete your card and submit it to the Membership Committee. Remember that if you have completed the directive in a space in 2022 ... not AFTER you have acquired a card ... it counts! If there is any directive that does not occur in 2022 for whatever reason, it becomes a free space. There will be four prizes ... gift cards of differing levels ... that will be drawn at the Annual Banquet during the MCPGo Raffle. Submit your completed card and get a chance at winning a prize! You can submit your card to any Membership Committee member or scan it/take a pic of it and submit it to publicity@masonplayers.org by December 31st. A list of those who sit on the Membership Committee is available on the web site. Click on Members and then Leadership. To obtain a card, click on the link above left.
Have you dropped off your used shoes?
Have you asked relatives, friends, enemies to do the same?
The receptacle is at the front door of the Playhouse!
It will soon be gone ... don't let it leave without your donation!
Check out the members shown above who have made THEIR donations!!
Coordinator Jonathan Eckman is looking for donations of new and used shoes. Get into those closets and get those shoes you never wear any more. Tell everyone you know to do the same.
All styles of shoe are welcome. The Drive is being coordinated through the Funds2Org organization. The collected shoes are sold at a very low cost to interested micro-entrepreneurs in 26 nations who struggle with maintaining a viable economic system.
If you would like to learn more about where the collected shoes will go and how they will benefit others, click here.
If you are unable to drop collected shoes at the Playhouse, please send an e-mail to arrange a pickup.
Let's take advantage of this opportunity to help MCP while we help others!
Drop off your unused shoes and ask others to do so, as well!
This newsletter will be sent to you each Sunday evening. It is the hope of the leadership of MCP that this will be an easy communication for you to refer to throughout that week and that you will not have as many messages from the group in your inbox over the course of the week. You can always reach out to us at any time with suggestions.
