Two Shows from 2027 Season
to Audition in November
Auditions for MCP's Winter and Spring Shows Will Be in November
Director Jim Cronin and Producer Tess Catlin will hold auditions for MCP's Company on Saturday, November 14th, from Noon to 2:00pm, on Sunday, November 15th, from 1:00 to 3:00pm and Monday,November 16th, from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Director Gail Rudolph and Producer Mary Stan Fizer will hold auditions for MCP's The Cover of Life on Sunday, November 22nd, from 1:30 to 4:30pm and on Monday, November 23rd, from 7:00 to 9:00pm. All auditions will be held at the Mason Community Playhouse, 5529 Mason Road in Mason.
From musical theatre's most renowned composer, Stephen Sondheim, Company is regarded as a trailblazer of the modern-musical genre and is the winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Lyrics, and Best Book. The show features a brisk and energetic score containing many of Sondheim's best known songs. The piece highlights real characters, causing audience member to see reflections of themselves in at least one of the characters onstage. The story follows confirmed bachelor, Robert, who on the night of his 35th birthday, contemplates his unmarried state. Over the course of a series of dinners, drinks and even a wedding, his friends – "those good and crazy people [his] married friends" – explain the pros and cons of taking on a spouse. The habitually single Robert is forced to question his adamant retention of bachelorhood. The cast requires 14 skilled actors/vocalists.
Filled with charm and fun, The Cover of Life is a deeply affecting story about three women and their struggle for self-worth in rural Louisiana in 1943. The show premiered off-Broadway at the American Place Theatre on October 11, 1994. The play follows the stories of Tood, Weetsie and Sybill, who each married a Cliffert brother. The men are off to war and a local news story about these young wives keeping the home fires burning intrigues Henry Luce, who decides that they belong on the cover of Life Magazine. The interaction of these brides with the urban reporter sent to relate their story fills the show with its wit and creates a deeply affecting story about the struggle for self-worth. The cast requires the acting skills of six females and one male.
